Who We Are
(and what we are about) …
We are a collection of Christians from all walks of life who seek to walk with the Lord in our daily lives. We are not perfect, but we seek to be holy as God is holy (1 Peter 1:16). With this goal in mind, we use the Bible as our guidebook on life’s journey. We take our name from Scripture (Romans 16:16, “all the churches of Christ greet you.”). Our worship gatherings are also guided by God through His Word. So, if you were to visit us on any given Sunday, you would observe the following expressions of worship:
Observing the Lord’s Supper (every Sunday)—1 Cor. 10:16; Mt. 26:26-29; 1 Cor. 11:23-30; Acts 20:7
Singing (without instruments)— Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 13:15
Praying—Philippians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:1,2,8
Teaching (preaching, the reading of Scripture)—Mt. 28:19-20; 2 Tim. 2:2; 4:1-5; Acts 2:42
Giving—Giving is a way of life for Christians—1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 9:7
We seek to speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15).
Guided by God’s Word, we believe that all have sinned and have fallen short of God’s glory, so each person must hear God’s Word, believe what God says, turn one’s back on living a sinful life, confess that Jesus is the Son of God (Mt. 10:32) and be buried with Christ in baptism for the remission of sins in order to be clothed with the righteousness of Jesus (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-6; Galatians 3:26,27). Then, as each Christian walks in step with the Holy Spirit, we allow the Word to take root in our hearts so that we may bear Spiritual fruit and become like Jesus Christ. God set up His church to be a community of believers encouraging one another on this journey. So, God’s wisdom teaches us that we both encourage each other to meet while we meet to encourage one another in our worship gatherings (Heb. 10:25). We invite you to come fellowship, worship, and study with us.
Below, you’ll find pictures of some of us, particularly our shepherds, deacons, and ministers. Find anyone of us and we believe you will be welcomed by a friendly member of the family at Fourth Street in Selmer.
